TMI Monday: August 19, 2013

Since I have many friends in different areas of the country and/or world that I don’t get to see all that often, and since I need to practice coherent writing more often (I use the word “coherent” far too often and far too loosely) I decided to write this weekly missive about the things I have learned/accomplished/eaten.  It won’t be on Facebook, so not many people will read it, and I’ll save on stamps and paper.  Sustainability?  Does that apply here?  Sustainability, yay!

This is the last week of summer.  Thank.  Goodness.  I’ve gotten to the point where I’m willfully watching anime just to have something to do.  Not much though – I’m only on the fourth episode of Magi.  Boyfriend got me hooked on that mostly because of the misleading cover art.  I want Alibaba and Morgiana to get together already, darn it.  The anime is giving me a little more hope so far.

Yesterday, I also ordered two boxes of daifuku.  I’m turning into a major weeaboo.

I only get them a couple times a year (always on my birthday) and hey, my half-birthday is coming up.  It also happens to be the first day of classes and I have five hours of class on Mondays.  Maybe I’ll shift this TMI to another day since I don’t foresee having too much energy left on Monday nights …

I picked up the last of my school supplies today.  I will wait to get the Slim-Fast and other such necessities until Sunday.  I eat Slim-Fast shakes for Sunday breakfast since the servery is closed on Sunday mornings (duhurrrr … SO smart, punishing us religious folk.)  But for some reason, everyone sees the “Slim-” part of the name and freaks out, thinking I am trying to lose weight.  Trust me, I don’t have to try to lose weight.  That 3+ miles a day I walk and the crappy servery food controls my weight for me.  I drink the shakes for the calories and protein and to stop me from fainting in church.  Or on the bus, I think that might actually be worse.

I can’t believe that in just a few more days I’ll be back home.  I miss Rice Village, especially on Saturday nights when I can get a coffee and just read to my heart’s content.  I don’t ever want to live anywhere else.  Well, maybe the Pacific Northwest, and I hear New England is pretty nice.  If you don’t have to drive 🙂

I have not learned very much lately.  My reading has been limited to GMOLOL and Cracked articles.  I learn a lot through Cracked, but it’s pop culture stuff.  I have rediscovered the Anne of Green Gables series … You can laugh now, I give you permission 😉  Definitely a lot of Scenery Porn (sporn?)  Now might be a good time to mention that I’ve always wanted red hair, but I don’t have the complexion for it!

Physically, I was pretty sick last week, but that has thankfully cleared up for now.  I am so lucky to have a kind family to take care of me while I’m so sick.  Maybe the lack of Slim-Fast has upset my stomach?  I’m kidding, of course.  😉

The syllabi for this semester are on their way out.  BIOC 311 sounds like a great class.  I have already done most of the lab work for PHYS 101, but let’s not talk about that.  It’s going to be great to have a new floor family, a new committee to head, and a new room and roommate!  A lot of my good Rice friends will be gone this semester, but that just means new chances for me to make other friends, right?  Right.  Of course.

It’s time for me to eat dinner so I guess I should go.  See you next week!
